LA 2.1: Contribution in a Technical Capacity to the Creation of a Video Project

Reviewing my progress on Pre-Production

Cast

What happened so far is that me and a group of people was working on some footage, with me as the director I have arranged and decided on the roles, as well as being behind the scenes I had to have an actor role as there were not enough people for all scenes so as well as directing I also participated on a role of an antagonist for the short movie I am working on: Rogue Humanity.

As for the Scriptwriting and dialogue there is a big difference as many bits of dialogue were improvised and some of it had a major changes whilst the plot still stayed relevant and the same. There were added bits of dialogue that made the scenes feel more like comical relief rather then just a normal confrontation, the scenes are funny but also pretty serious both at the same time.

Roles

People in the Cast:

(Me) Benjamin: Both film Director and Robot Leader

Kieran Turley: Props and Cameraman

Kieron Thompson: College Student 01

Josh: College Student 02

Matthew: Robot Minion

Plot Summery and Script changes

The plot is short and simple, two college students were using what appears to be a regular video camera when all of a sudden a robot which appears to look human approaches them directly, in the original script the robot appeared to look familiar to the students but in the improvised version (the video),  there had been several changes to the dialogue which adds funny moments in the scene whilst still keeping it serious at the same time, for instance the robot asks for the technology in both the original script and the improvised version whilst the students switch from just answering some questions to just being confused and making fun of the robot in the new version. The robot in the new version is unrecognised and neither the robot knows them except technology the students currently possesses.

In both versions the ending of the film is when the college students become abducted by the robot leader whilst the robot minions assist as well, the only difference is that the original abducts them straight away whilst the actual footage we had an improvised fighting scene, the reason I thought it would be cool to add this scene is because we get to demonstrate the difference between both robot and human capabilities, in the end no one was killed (one of the students was shot but it's a stun weapon), the leader then manages to succeed into retrieving the tech and abducted the students in the end.

The reason I thought that the abduction part of the scene was appropriate was mainly to add a cliffhanger and to leave audiences thinking and wondering what will happen next.

Organising and equipment

Asides from changes to the plot, what i have done in pre-production is to set up the green screen equipment and to get all equipment ready as well as setting up a cast, my role is to direct and organise the film itself by making important decisions such as, who will play as who in the cast, what are the staging positions or who will be in charge of the equipment?etc. This is when using leadership skills is important so i would need to be decisive and make the right decisions in order to make a good film.

The Equipment that we use is mainly Green screen for the visual effects and background, a Canon for video footage with Diegetic sound effects, The lights in the green screen room for adjusting the lighting of the film set, a Tripod for support of the camera to ensure that the camera is fully focused and for steady aiming whilst recording and some personal props that i use, (I just use an old personal camera as a film prop), an 32GB (Min) SD Card for storing the footage and lastly a Mac (Computer) for Post production editing.
