Three Point Lighting 1.1: How it is Used,
Key light
A key light mainly highlights the form of the subject. The key light is usually the most important type of lighting and it is best used for beginners as it is the most basic type of lighting, there are many types of key lighting, for example: a low key lighting setup can allow you to make a darker atmosphere whilst a high key setup does the opposite and creates brighter backgrounds.
Back light
The purpose of using a back light is to control the technique of lighting. A back light is usually placed behind/near a person/object (or at right angles). the back light is used for mainly lighting effects such as depth or Separation of the subject and the background. Perfect for making visual effects come to life.
Fill light
The purpose of this type of lighting is to reduce contrast during photography, filming or during a stage performance etc. In many cases mostly, this type of lighting is placed in front or beside the subject. the purpose of that is to eliminate any form of shadowing on the models face/body. in general you need to place this lighting on opposite of your main lighting. if the lighting is behind the subject you will need to position the fill light in front of them for example.
